CentOS Linux is a reliable, predictable, managed, and repeatable platform based on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux source code (RHEL). CentOS Linux has been a community-supported distribution since March 2004, drawn from Red Hat’s publicly available source code. As such, CentOS Linux is designed to be functionally compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
They primarily modify packages to remove the branding and artwork associated with the originating vendor. This Linux distribution is completely free to use and redistribute. Linux is developed by a small but increasing group of core developers. This Project is a community-driven free software initiative focused on building a robust foundation upon which open source communities may grow. There, you’ll discover a platform for developing applications for cloud providers, the hosting community, and scientific data processing, to name a few.
The Board of Governors
The Governing Board is comprised of CentOS Project members, many of whom have been involved since the Project’s inception, as well as new Red Hat members who were key in putting the new alliance together. The Governing Board’s primary responsibility is to curate the CentOS Project, to aid and advise the many SIGs in their growth and development, and to promote CentOS Linux.
The Project’s Organization
The CentOS Project is structured similarly to the Apache Foundation, with a governing board presiding over a number of semi-autonomous Special Interest Groups, or ‘SIGs.’ These organizations are dedicated to developing different extensions, add-ons, and alternatives for core Linux functionality.
