CentOS Project

This Project is a community-driven free software initiative focused on building a robust foundation upon which open source communities may grow. There, you’ll discover a platform for developing applications for cloud providers, the hosting community, and scientific data processing, to name a few.

The Board of Governors

The Governing Board is comprised of CentOS Project members, many of whom have been involved since the Project’s inception, as well as new Red Hat members who were key in putting the new alliance together. The Governing Board’s primary responsibility is to curate the CentOS Project, to aid and advise the many SIGs in their growth and development, and to promote CentOS Linux.

The Project’s Organization

The CentOS Project is structured similarly to the Apache Foundation, with a governing board presiding over a number of semi-autonomous Special Interest Groups, or ‘SIGs.’ These organizations are dedicated to developing different extensions, add-ons, and alternatives for core Linux functionality. Several prominent SIGs include the following:
Core — Responsible for developing and distributing the Linux kernel.
Xen4CentOS – Support for Xen4 in CentOS 6 Design – Enhancing the user experience with high-quality artwork
CentOS is an enterprise-class Linux distribution generated from publicly available source code offered by a well-known North American Enterprise Linux provider.
